Frequently Asked Questions
You’re tired of feeling anxious and constantly worrying about all of the things. You want calm. You want peace. You want to put yourself first and finally do something for you. You’re ready to start therapy, but you have a few questions. Isn’t it funny how as soon as you’re ready to do the thing you’ve been considering for a while, all of the “what ifs” start flooding into your mind. You probably even call yourself an “over thinker” sometimes. No problem, I get it.
I’ve answered a few of the questions you may have for my online therapy services:
Who do you provide online counseling to?
I provide online therapy to residents of North Carolina and Florida. I help high achieving adults calm their brains and bodies so they can live without anxiety.
What happens during the free 15 minute phone consultation?
The goal of the consultation is to determine whether we are the best fit to go on this journey together. During our call, I will ask what you’d like to address in therapy. Thinking about how you would like things in your life to be different or what improvements you’d like to see over the course of the next 3 months, 6 months, or even year can help you answer this question. I will also answer any questions you have about my process. Click here to schedule your complimentary consultation today.
What happens during the first online therapy session?
During the first session, I will complete a comprehensive clinical assessment. This means that I will ask you to share more detailed information about what brings you to therapy at this time. I will also ask questions to learn about your background and history. We will identify your specific goals for our work together during this first session as well.
How often will I need to come to therapy?
I have found that weekly therapy sessions are the most effective way to help clients achieve their goals. We will choose a day and time that works for both of our schedules to meet on a recurring basis.
What are your rates for therapy?
Initial intake session $235
45-50 minute session $200
80 minute session $300
Accepted forms of payment include: credit cards, debit cards, FSAs, and HSAs.
Why would I need an 80-minute therapy session?
80-minute therapy sessions allow you to have more time for an uninterrupted deep dive during your session. These extended sessions are particularly beneficial with EMDR therapy because you are able to spend more time processing. With traditional 50-minute therapy sessions, clients sometimes feel that they were just getting to down to the nitty gritty when it’s time for the session to end. If you’d like to incorporate extended therapy sessions, simply let me know in advance.
How long will I need to be in therapy?
The work of therapy is not an overnight process. It will take time for you to see real and sustainable change. The length of treatment varies based on each individual’s needs. However, in the beginning of treatment, new clients should be prepared to commit to at least 10-12 weekly sessions.
Do you take my insurance?
I am considered an out-of-network (OON) provider, which means I am not in network with any insurance companies.
Why don’t you accept insurance?
Accepting health insurance means we’re inviting a 3rd party into treatment. Health insurance companies have a number of stipulations on your treatment that historically do not take into consideration what’s best for you as a client. There’s also been extensive research on the negative impact of inviting a 3rd party into the therapeutic relationship.
As a healthcare provider, I’ve made the decision to no longer participate in a broken system. And instead, focus my energy on doing great work with my clients. I would be happy to discuss this further with you if you have questions.
Can I use my Out-of-Network benefits?
Most health insurance plans provide some level of out-of-network reimbursement. If you see the terms "PPO," "POS," "Tricare," or "out-of-network'' on your insurance card, then you likely have out-of-network benefits. Ask your human resources representative or insurance company to be sure. If you are planning to go this route, please contact your insurance company BEFORE scheduling a consultation with me.
If you would like to use your out-of-network benefits, I will provide you with a statement of services called a “Superbill”. You can submit this to your insurance company to request reimbursement. Some clients choose to use services like Reimbursify to help with this process. Depending on your health insurance plan, your insurance company may reimburse you for some or all of what you’ve paid for treatment. It’s best to speak with your insurance company directly for information specific to your plan.
Do you offer a reduced rate or sliding scale?
I do not offer a sliding scale. However, here is a great resource which was created to make therapy more accessible by assisting individuals with the cost of treatment.
What is your availability for online therapy?
I offer appointments Monday to Thursday from 10:00am to 7:00pm.
Where do online therapy sessions take place?
I provide online therapy using a secure HIPAA compliant online platform called Simple Practice. I ask that you find a quiet, private, and safe place to log in for your sessions. Please eliminate all distractions in preparation for your sessions.
