4 Time Management Tips from an Anxiety Therapist in Charlotte, NC
Do you feel like you’re always working now that you are working from home? Time management is a key aspect of mental wellness. As an anxiety therapist in Charlotte, NC, I help people in session every day. And I want to help you too. Here are 4 tips to help you better manage your time while working from home.
Time Management Strategies
1. Use a to-do list. Create a digital to-do list or jot one down on paper. This will help you to drop that ever-growing mental checklist. It also ensures you don't forget anything. The best part is you'll get the satisfaction of checking things off of your list as you go, so you can really see your progress. Who else gets excited when you get to check something off your list? I sure do!
2. Break down the large tasks into smaller parts. You know the saying "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time." Projects usually have several components that need to be knocked out before it's completely done. Make your task list and complete the quick tasks first. This will help you feel less overwhelmed and have more of a sense of accomplishment as you go. It will also keep you motivated to keep pushing.
3. Prioritize realistically. Everything can't get the top spot on your list of priorities. Make your list. Pause for a moment. Take some time to figure out which tasks are truly urgent and which ones can wait. Then reorder your list accordingly.
4. Don't forget to take care of yourself. You will have a lot more energy and motivation if you are incorporating self-care into your daily life. Block out time on your schedule for breaks. Stay hydrated throughout the day. Take a real lunch break. Don't eat while you are working. We're spending a lot more time in front of screens nowadays, so you need to give your eyes and your brain a break. Oh and don't forget to take your days off even if you are working from home. We could all use a mental health day every now and again.
